Simon Sweeney Hair Design

Tom from Simon Sweeney Hair Design in Monasterevin Co. Kildare talks about what it's like to get back to business post lockdown.

"If you were to tell us this time last year that our business was going to be closed for three months, we would have told you there is no way we could survive that, but we did! Like most salon owners will know this transition into the new normal has been a strange one. Stressful, terrifying, hopeless are just some of the words to describe it. We are not focusing on these things but instead focusing on how to make our business better and safe for clients. We have provided a space that follows all PPE guidelines but have worked endlessly to make sure that the atmosphere is the same in our salon.
Our clients have been amazing, they have also supported us throughout the entire process. They have been flexible and understanding of the new procedures we have had to put in place. For that, we thank them and have appreciation that we cannot put into words.
It is so important to support your local business, local businesses are the heart of the country. We occupy buildings in small towns and make them bright and bring a buzz to the area. We give a service that comes with a familiar face and a story. You will see us in the local supermarket and we will have a chat and a laugh. You know us and we know you. This is our community that we share with you. By supporting us you are not just supporting the salon, you are supporting the town we live in, you are supporting the community we built together, you are supporting the jobs of the team of 10 in the salon. Your custom has also been important to us, now more than ever it's vital to us and every other local business.
After 14 years in business we have seen the good in people, through a time where none of us really know what is going to happen we have come together to create relationships and friendships that will last much longer than this virus. That to us is the meaning of local businesses. We are proud to have our business in Monasterevin. A town that has always been good to us, we will do our best to give it back."
